The spot

DHI WASY (the German Branch of DHI) is looking for a hydrologist to become part of our growing team for water authorities for the German and European markets. You also have the opportunity to collaborate globally and develop your skills in collaboration with global experts.

As a hydrologist, you will work on various water resources projects where hydrological analyses, water balances and hydronumeric modelling are required. The position requires excellent technical skills, communication skills, writing reports and offers, presenting project results to the client, as well as teamwork. You will be responsible for successfully completing a wide range of projects, including:

  • hydrological analyses: river and catchment hydrology, flood hydrology, statistical analyses;
  • assessments of river basins: water balance, feasibility of water supply, sustainable use, hydropower potential;
  • hydraulic and hydrological modelling;
  • Prediction and real-time systems.

Your Responsibilities

Within the team for water authorities, you will work with 10 dedicated experts from the fields of water management, hydrology and hydronumeric modelling, but also with other experts from the German branch, which has over 50 employees. You also have the opportunity to work with our over DHI colleagues around the world.

The main tasks in this job are:

  • Collaboration in technical studies in the area of water balance modelling and hydrological analyses, in particular calibration and application of rainfall-runoff models in mining-influenced river basins as well as statistical evaluation of hydrological and meteorological measurement data;
  • participation in technical studies in the area of water management, in particular treatment and testing of water use data and characteristics of water management reservoirs and pipelines;
  • pre- and post-processing of input and output data from numerical models, statistical data analyses, GIS processing and mapping;
  • writing reports, offers and customer presentations;
  • Team play and willingness to train 'on the job. '

Your qualifications

  • M.Sc., Dipl.-Ing. or Ph.D. in Hydrology, Environmental Sciences/Engineering or in a Comparable Area;
  • Very good technical and analytical skills;
  • Strong Skills for Writing Offers and Reports;
  • At least 5 years of professional experience, experience in the analysis of hydrological data and in numerical modelling, in particular water balance modelling;
  • Good communication skills, both internally with the team and externally with customers;
  • Fluent spoken and written language skills in German and good language skills in English;
  • Self-motivated, ambitious and proactive, able to work both in a team and alone.
