Shaping development on the West Coast as part of the energy transition!

The West Coast region is a national leader in the generation of renewable energy. It is transforming itself from a structurally weak area to a highly dynamic center of the integrated energy revolution and an energy competence region. In particular, the large settlement of Northvolt near Heide is providing significant impetus for the further transformation process on the West Coast.
The district of Dithmarschen is a partner of the West Coast Regional Cooperation, which carries out joint interdistrict projects. In the joint project “RegioStrat — West Coast Energy Competence Region”, a strategic regional development concept must be set up, implementation projects launched in parallel and further funding options explored.

To coordinate these activities in the project, the district of Dithmarschen is looking for a

Project manager (m/f/d)

The full-time position is generally divisible and is limited to 31.10.2026. The funding is paid in accordance with grade 12 of the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD).

The West Coast region is currently facing very dynamic developments. The transformation of the energy supply from predominantly fossil fuels to renewable energies is in “full swing” here and is accompanied by massive investments that provide impetus for growth and employment. Since 2019, the region has been marketing itself under the umbrella brand “Energy Coast” and, with the help of its strong network of economic development agencies, research, associations and municipalities, is developing into a pioneering region for renewable energy in Germany.
At the same time, the large settlement of the Northvolt Gigafactory in the Heide area provides its own spatial requirements and development impetus for the region: Competitive energy costs, an efficient transport infrastructure, the availability of commercial space and, last but not least, demand-oriented living space must be ensured and coordinated in a space-compatible manner. These challenges affect the entire West Coast region along the A23/B5 development axis and are concentrated in the Heide region.
The West Coast region wants to address this complex transformation with the steering effect through a transparent and long-term Strategic Regional Development Concept (SREK). The SREK is to build on REK 2019, strategically focus on the energy transition as a focus of expertise and enable a coherent approach on the West Coast to overcome the spatially significant challenge and to create opportunities through the Northvolt Factory.

The field of activity comprises the following focal areas

• Coordination and support of the project group
• organizational support of the project including preparation of service descriptions and the appointment of external service providers
• Content support for the preparation and implementation of a Strategic Regional Development Plan (SREK) for the West Coast region
• Networking of relevant actors in the development process
• active structuring of the interface function with the various project partners in close cooperation with the West Coast Regional Management and the Heide Region Development Agency
• regular communication about the progress of the development process within and outside the project network
• formal and administrative implementation of the funding project

Assumed is

• a degree (diploma/FH/Bachelor) with a focus on spatial sciences (regional development, geography, urban and regional planning, spatial planning) or economics

or

• a comparable professional and personal qualification for the performance of tasks

and

• Class B driving license

and

• very good spoken and written knowledge of the German language
