Collaboration within the framework of the joint project “Computer-Based Forecasts and Decision-Making Tools in Crop Protection (ValiProg),” which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) on the basis of a resolution of the German Bundestag on the Federal Institute for Agriculture and Food (BLE).
Your tasks
- Design and Development of Simulation Models for Pests and Diseases on Agricultural Crops;
- Conception, further or new development of phenological models for crops;
- Application of statistical methods for model testing, optimization and validation;
- Close Cooperation with Project Partners in Model Development, Data Collection and Model Deployment;
- documentation and presentation of concepts and project results in German and English;
- Publication of results in national and international scientific journals.
They have
- a completed academic degree in agricultural, environmental sciences, geoecology, biostatistics, applied mathematics or a comparable discipline with a focus on data analysis and modelling in the areas of agriculture and/or environment;
- practical experience with pathogen and phenology models in agriculture would be an advantage;
- Experience with the application of statistical and/or mathematical methods of analysis to large amounts of spatio-temporal data is desirable;
- Knowledge of the effects of weather and farming methods on plant diseases and protection;
- profound knowledge and experience with statistical software, e.g.: R, SAS, Python;
- very good communication and organizational skills, flexibility and the ability to work in a team;
- Very good written and spoken skills in German and English.
We offer
- A varied, challenging and interesting job in an international working environment;
- Part-time employment of 29.25 hours per week, limited to November 30, 2024, to work on an externally funded project. The employment relationship is governed by the Collective Agreement for Public Service East (TVöD-OST).
- remuneration in accordance with pay grade E 13 TVöD;
- Entry at the earliest possible date.
The JKI site in Kleinmachnow is easily accessible from Berlin and Potsdam and is very well connected to public transport (Julius Kühn-Institut stop, 8 minutes from Berlin-Wannsee S-Bahn station).
If you are hired, a subsidy of up to 40 euros per month can be paid for the S-Bahn job ticket.
