The Helmholtz Centre Potsdam — German Research Center for Geosciences GFZ is the national center for geosphere research. As a member of Helmholtz Association We are part of Germany's largest scientific organization. With round 1,500 employees We develop a well-founded system and process understanding of the solid earth as well as strategies and options for action to address global change and its regional effects, understand natural hazards and reduce associated risks in order to sustainably secure the growing demand for energy and raw materials for a high-tech society and to assess people's influence on the Earth system. The GFZ is involved in setting up the National Research Data Infrastructures (NFDI). As part of the Scientific Consortium for Earth System Sciences (NFDI4Earth), it is responsible, among other things, for international networking and embedding.

You work in a team that carries out, promotes and develops research data management for the GFZ and its partners. As part of the NFDI4Earth project, you support the international networking of NFDI4Earth.

Your area of responsibility:

  • Collaboration in international FDM networks
  • Connection to national and international research data infrastructures
  • Observation of international FDM developments in networks, consortia, research institutions, IT centers and libraries
  • Communication of new international FDM concepts to NFDI4Earth
  • Collaboration in the implementation of metadata standards and PIDs
  • Planning and implementation of workshops

Your qualification profile:

  • completed scientific university degree in geosciences, geoinformatics or another scientific discipline, preferably with a doctorate
  • Experience in implementing FDM concepts, preferably in Earth system research and in an international context, e.g. conceptual design of data and metadata standards, use of PIDs, appropriate software implementation
  • Experience in project management is desirable
  • Involvement in international FDM initiatives is an advantage
  • Experience in writing newsletters is an advantage
  • independent way of working
  • excellent communication skills
  • very good spoken and written language skills in German and English (CEFR level C1), alternatively basic knowledge of German (at least B1), combined with the willingness to bring German language skills to the required level as quickly as possible

Start date: As soon as possible

Time limit: 12 months (with option to extend) /parental leave replacement

Compensation: According to TVöD Bund (Tarifgebiet Ost), the position is rated at grade 13. The classification is carried out in accordance with the tariff regulations and the corresponding personal requirements.

working time: Full-time (currently 39 h/week); the position is generally suitable for part-time use.
